Sunday July 26th Meeting

We had a fun meeting via the Zoom platform this afternoon! One new member attended-- she knows how to crochet and wants to get into knitting, too. Some beautiful items were donated for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri and HavenHouse St. Louis.

We are now knitting warm winter items for HavenHouse St. Louis guests and red scarves for Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project. Please contact us if you need yarn or help with patterns.

Our August meeting will also be held on the Zoom platform. Please stay safe and keep knitting!

July 2nd donation from Bella!

Longtime Kids Knitting it Forward member Bella D contributed over 50 colorful knitted items this past week for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri, HavenHouse St. Louis guests, and red scarves for Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project. She also dropped off 2 handwarmers for HavenHouse St. Louis that were crocheted by her friend Celina.

With these donations, Kids Knitting it Forward members have now contributed over 8000 hours of community service and created over 1200 items since our group began in January 2015! Great work, everyone!

Sunday June 28th Meeting!

We had a relaxing meeting via the Zoom platform this afternoon! It was fun to knit and catch up with members whom we hadn't seen in a few months. Donations for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri were received via front porch dropoff.

Sunday June 28th Meeting Will Be Held via Zoom!

Our Sunday June 28th meeting that was scheduled to be held at the Kirkwood Public Library will now take place over Zoom! The start time is 1:30 pm.

We want to continue teaching knitting as best we can during our online meetings. If you have any ideas for what you'd like us to demonstrate, please let us know! We have some ideas but we would love to be able to show you how to do the techniques you've been itching to learn.

Status of upcoming meetings

The Kirkwood Public Library is closed until further notice due to public health concerns. Once it reopens, we will let our members know, and will resume our monthly meetings there.

COVID-19 Update

The Kirkwood Public Library has cancelled all library programs through March 30, 2020 due to COVID-19.  Therefore, our March 29th meeting at the library is cancelled.

Sunday February 23rd Meeting!

We had a nice meeting this afternoon! Several members turned in their completed items (baby hats, baby afghan squares, baby sweaters, and a baby afghan) for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri. Two new members attended the meeting, one of whom got started knitting with the help of one of our experienced knitters, and the other who knitted and donated a baby afghan square during the meeting. Wow! We are continuing to knit items for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri. Please let us know if you need patterns or yarn for your projects.

Sunday January 26th Meeting!

We had a fun meeting this afternoon! Heather Libhart, volunteer manager at HavenHouse St. Louis, was our guest speaker. She described HavenHouse's mission, and noted that their guests are very appreciative of items knitted by our members. We donated 36 items to HavenHouse today, including hats, scarves/cowls, and a warm, cozy blanket. Many thanks to Abby, Ashley, Bonnie, Carolyn, Janneke, Joanne M, Marge, Marilyn, Maureen, May, and Pam for your hard work creating these warm and beautiful items!

For the next few months, we will be knitting baby items (hats, booties, baby afghan squares, sweaters, etc.) for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri. Please contact us if you need project ideas and/or help with your projects. A good first project for beginners is a 6 inch by 6 inch baby afghan square. Jean (Newborns in Need volunteer) turned in a beautiful afghan today that she assembled with squares knitted by our members. We are very grateful for this partnership!

We donated items to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri today!  Many thanks to Alex, Aneesh, Carolyn, Marilyn, May, and Patrice, who spent almost 50 hours creating these beautiful items for the babies!

Sunday December 29th Meeting!

We had a fun meeting this afternoon!  Four new members got started knitting with the help of some of our experienced knitters. Other members turned in completed items for HavenHouse St. Louis and Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri.

We are now knitting warm winter items (hats, scarves, gloves, etc.) for HavenHouse St. Louis guests and will be donating these next month. Let us know if you need patterns or yarn for your projects.

Sunday November 24th Meeting!

We had a fun meeting this afternoon!  One new member attended, and she got started knitting with the help of one of our experienced knitters.  Our 2019 donation to Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project will be 36 scarves!  Many thanks to Annie Z, Bella, Carolyn, Jen G, Joanne M, Lynette, Marge, Maureen, May, Patrice, and Sue for creating these beautiful, warm scarves!  Knitting a 5-foot-long scarf is a commitment, and we appreciate the time (437 hours total!) and care that went into making these gifts. These scarves will be a special surprise in a Valentine's Day care package for the college student recipients. Several members also turned in completed items for HavenHouse St. Louis and Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri at today's meeting. Sunday October 27th Meeting!

We had a fun meeting this past Sunday afternoon! Two new members got started knitting with the help of our adult volunteers, and some members turned in completed items for Foster Care to Success’s Red Scarf Project, HavenHouse St. Louis, and Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri.

Red scarf knitters: please bring your finished scarves to our November 24th meeting—we will be sending our scarves to Foster Care to Success at the end of next month.  Thank you!

October 10th donation to HavenHouse St. Louis!

We donated 63 items to HavenHouse St. Louis today! Many thanks to Abby, Alex, Alice, Annie Z, Bella D, Bella S, Carolyn, Ellie, Janneke, Jen G, Joanne M, Lana, Maureen, May, Ovya, and Stephanie, who spent a total of 457 hours knitting these warm, beautiful items for HavenHouse St. Louis guests!

Sunday September 22nd meeting!

We had a wonderful meeting this afternoon!  Three new members got started knitting with the help of our experienced volunteers.  Other members worked on items for HavenHouse St. Louis and Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project, and turned in completed items for these agencies.

September 7th donation to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri!

We donated 32 items to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri today!  Many thanks to Abby, Alex, Bella, Carolyn, Ellie, Jean, Kathleen, Marge, Marilyn, May, Olivia, and Patrice, who spent a total of 173 hours creating these beautiful items for the babies!

Sunday August 25th Meeting!

Knitting is a wonderful way to pass the time on a rainy Sunday afternoon. We had a fantastic meeting today, celebrating our recent milestone of over 1000 items knitted by our members!

Since our group began in January 2015, 77 volunteers have spent 6836 hours knitting a total of 1041 items. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed their time and talents to the group!

Two new knitters got started knitting today with the help of some experienced volunteers, and members donated items for Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project, HavenHouse St. Louis, and Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri.

Sunday July 28th Meeting!

We had a fantastic meeting this afternoon!  We welcomed three new members and they got started knitting with the help of a few experienced knitters. Members donated colorful items for HavenHouse St. Louis, Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri, and Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project.

EXCITING NEWS-- as of today's meeting we have created over 1000 items for those in need since our group's inception in January 2015! Way to go, everyone!  Keep on knitting!

Sunday June 23rd Meeting!

We had a fantastic meeting this afternoon!  Nine new members attended, many of whom tried knitting for the first time today.  Many thanks to our experienced knitters for getting the new knitters started. 

Completed items for HavenHouse St. Louis, Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri, and Foster Care to Success’s Red Scarf project were donated today. We are especially grateful to Jean, Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri member, who is assembling baby afghan squares knitted by our members into a colorful afghan. 

Our members have knitted a total of 973 items since the group started in January 2015. We have set a goal of reaching 1000 items in the next month!  We are currently knitting red scarves for Foster Care to Success’s Red Scarf Project and warm winter items for HavenHouse St. Louis guests.  Please let us know if you need patterns or yarn!

June 1st donation to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri!

We donated 65 items today to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri!  Many thanks to Alex, Annie Z, Ellie, Jennifer, Joanne M, Judy, Marilyn, Maureen, May, Miko, Ovya, Pam, Stephanie, and Sue, who spent a total of 285.5 hours creating these beautiful items for the babies!

Sunday May 19th Meeting!

We had a wonderful meeting this afternoon! Many returning members attended the meeting, and we had one new member get started with knitting. Several members donated beautiful items for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri and HavenHouse St. Louis. 

Members will be knitting red scarves for Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project and warm winter items for HavenHouse St. Louis guests this summer.  Please let us know if you need patterns or yarn!

Sunday March 24th Meeting!

We had a fun meeting this afternoon!  Several members donated items for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri and HavenHouse St. Louis, including two members who finished knitting their first items.  Four new members attended today’s meeting, two who had previous knitting experience and needed a refresher, and two who tried knitting for the first time. Thank you to our seasoned knitters for assisting our new members today.  Keep on knitting, everyone!

Sunday February 24th Meeting!

We had a fantastic meeting this afternoon!  Six first-time attendees got started knitting with the help of our experienced knitters. We recently received a large yarn donation, and some members kept busy re-winding donated skeins.  Members also donated completed items for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri and HavenHouse St. Louis.

As of this afternoon, we hit some exciting milestones as a group: 70 volunteers have now contributed over 6000 hours of community service, knitting over 900 items (101 red scarves for Foster Care to Success’s Red Scarf Project, 356 items for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri, and 434 warm winter items for HavenHouse St. Louis guests) since our group began in January 2015!
