UPCOMING MEETINGS

The Kirkwood Public Library has cancelled all in-person youth library programs until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and our March, April, and May 2020 meetings at the library were cancelled.

Meetings are currently being held via the Zoom platform.

November 2021 donation to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri!

We will be donating 5 baby afghans and 1 baby hat to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri! Many thanks to Ann, Jean, Lucia, Maureen, and Sue, who spent a total of 86 hours creating these colorful, warm items for the babies.

November 2021 donation to HavenHouse St. Louis!

We will be donating 43 items to HavenHouse St. Louis for their guests! Many thanks to Ann, Bella, Carolyn, Jen, Maureen, May, and Patrice, who spent a total of 224 hours creating these warm, beautiful items.

November 2021 donation to Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project!

Our 2021 donation to Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project will be 13 scarves! Many thanks to Jen, Lucia, Madeline, Maureen, and May for creating these beautiful, warm scarves. Knitting a 5-foot-long scarf is a commitment and we appreciate the time (140 hours total) and care that went into making these gifts. These scarves will be a special surprise in a Valentine's Day care package for the college student recipients.

Sunday November 21, 2021 meeting!

We had a relaxing meeting this afternoon! Members shared the projects that they are currently working on. Some members turned in beautiful, completed items for Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project and HavenHouse St. Louis guests.

Baby afghan donation!

Many thanks to our member Jean, who assembled squares knitted by some of our members into two beautiful and colorful baby afghans for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What's the recommended age to participate in this group?

Students must be in 4th grade and up to participate in Kids Knitting it Forward.

Is there a fee to be a member of Kids Knitting it Forward?

No! It is totally free.

Do I have to come to all of the meetings to be a part of the group?

No; come when it is convenient for you. It is okay to drop in when you're available.

What should I bring to meetings?

We have a limited supply of starting materials (knitting needles and yarn) for new knitters. If you already have supplies that you want to use, please bring them! The best needles for beginners are U.S. size 7, 8, or 9, 10" in length, and NOT double pointed or circular. They will have a knob or button at one end with a point at the other end.

What kinds of things will members be knitting?

Members will knit a variety of items including baby hats, baby booties, and baby afghans for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri; red scarves for former foster kids who are now in college via the Foster Care to Success' Red Scarf Project; and winter hats, scarves, and gloves for HavenHouse St. Louis guests. We will provide patterns for all skill levels for these projects.

I have supplies (yarn, needles, etc) to donate-what things are you looking for?

We will happily accept donations of any kind or color of yarn (baby, sport, wool, etc). In terms of needles, we will accept any, but since there are so many new knitters in the group, U.S. size 7, 8, or 9, 10" in length, and non-double pointed and non-circular are best. We also accept gift cards to craft stores and knitting notions, such as gauges and sewing needles. Please contact kidsknittingitforward@gmail.com to coordinate a donation! Thank you!
