UPCOMING MEETINGS

The Kirkwood Public Library has cancelled all in-person youth library programs until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and our March, April, and May 2020 meetings at the library were cancelled.

Meetings are currently being held via the Zoom platform.

Sunday December 27th Meeting!

We had a fun meeting this afternoon! One new member attended, and she picked up knitting very quickly with the help of some of our how-to videos and our experienced knitters. Another member turned in knitted hats for HavenHouse St. Louis and a beautiful scarf for Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project.

Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project Donation!

 

Our 2020 donation to Foster Care to Success’s Red Scarf Project will be 17 scarves! Many thanks to Bella, Carolyn, Maureen, Patrice, and Sue for creating these beautiful, warm scarves. Knitting a 5-foot-long scarf is a commitment and we appreciate the time (228 hours total) and care that went into making these gifts. These scarves will be a special surprise in a Valentine’s Day care package for the college student recipients.

October 28th Donation to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri!

We donated 50 items to Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri today! Many thanks to Aneesh, Bella, Jean, Marilyn, Maureen, May, Pam, Sue, and Susan, who spent a total of 280 hours creating these beautiful items for the babies!

We donated 87 warm winter items to HavenHouse St. Louis today! Many thanks to Abby, Bella, Bonnie, Celina, Lucy, Maureen, May, and Susan, who spent a total of 546 hours knitting these warm, beautiful items for HavenHouse St. Louis guests!

Sunday October 25th Meeting!

We had a relaxing meeting this afternoon on Zoom! Some members worked on their red scarves for Foster Care to Success, while others worked on items for HavenHouse St. Louis and Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri (NIN).

We are getting ready to donate some warm winter items to HavenHouse and NIN. Please contact us to turn in completed items. We will be collecting completed red scarves next month for donation. Keep on knitting and stay healthy and safe!

July 2nd donation from Bella!

Longtime Kids Knitting it Forward member Bella D contributed over 50 colorful knitted items this past week for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri, HavenHouse St. Louis guests, and red scarves for Foster Care to Success's Red Scarf Project. She also dropped off 2 handwarmers for HavenHouse St. Louis that were crocheted by her friend Celina.

With these donations, Kids Knitting it Forward members have now contributed over 8000 hours of community service and created over 1200 items since our group began in January 2015! Great work, everyone!

Sunday June 28th Meeting Will Be Held via Zoom!


Our Sunday June 28th meeting that was scheduled to be held at the Kirkwood Public Library will now take place over Zoom! The start time is 1:30 pm.

The Kirkwood Public Library has cancelled all library programs through March 30, 2020 due to COVID-19.  Therefore, our March 29th meeting at the library is cancelled.

Sunday February 23rd Meeting!

We had a nice meeting this afternoon! Several members turned in their completed items (baby hats, baby afghan squares, baby sweaters, and a baby afghan) for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri. Two new members attended the meeting, one of whom got started knitting with the help of one of our experienced knitters, and the other who knitted and donated a baby afghan square during the meeting. Wow! We are continuing to knit items for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri. Please let us know if you need patterns or yarn for your projects.

Sunday January 26th Meeting!

We had a fun meeting this afternoon! Heather Libhart, volunteer manager at HavenHouse St. Louis, was our guest speaker. She described HavenHouse's mission, and noted that their guests are very appreciative of items knitted by our members. We donated 36 items to HavenHouse today, including hats, scarves/cowls, and a warm, cozy blanket. Many thanks to Abby, Ashley, Bonnie, Carolyn, Janneke, Joanne M, Marge, Marilyn, Maureen, May, and Pam for your hard work creating these warm and beautiful items!

For the next few months, we will be knitting baby items (hats, booties, baby afghan squares, sweaters, etc.) for Newborns in Need of Eastern Missouri. Please contact us if you need project ideas and/or help with your projects. A good first project for beginners is a 6 inch by 6 inch baby afghan square. Jean (Newborns in Need volunteer) turned in a beautiful afghan today that she assembled with squares knitted by our members. We are very grateful for this partnership!
